Man, I love this life. Rise at 4:30 to see Hunky Husband off into the world of commuter Hell, read myriad depressing international news wires, kiss my children off to school, and hop in my new *minivan* and head to Wal-Mart to buy things I don't need, with money I don't have, made by folks who hate me. Yes indeedy, a great day to be an American wife and mother.
Crunchy Con that I am, Wal-Mart has never been a comfortable fit for me. But the Reaganite in me believes that all business is small business, because at some point in its time line even Mega Hel-Mart was a Mom and Pop operation. Who can fault Pop for making it big? Really big.
But a new Wal-Martian ambivalence is gestating behind the Great Wall. Wal-Mart has recently capitulated to the Communist Party in China by allowing such unions to operate in their Chinese outlets where unions are not allowed in the United States. Not that I am any fan of unions, but let's have some perspective, people, please. So, do I go to Wal-Mart to support Mom and Pop's American Dream, or do I stay home in protest of the Communist nightmare? This might finally be the excuse I need to unlatch from the mother's milk of every day low prices.
But what of my Liberal brethren? Ooooo, the conflict. Do they boycott Wal-Mart and the Big Business nightmare, or shop in support of Chairman Mao's dream?
Tough one.
Want to really tick off the family? Throw down the challenge to decorate their homes without Christmas decorations made in communist China. I did a couple of years ago when a relative told me I was crazy because she could easily do it thus it wasn't necessary to try.
Next Christmas, her tree was almost bare. Oh, and no Nativity.
[JANE SAYS: That is why, Grasshopper, the Libbies, they celebrate the "Festivus". It involves a pole. A Bare pole. No need for most honorable decorations made by Wan Hung Lo.]
