CPAC STRAW POLL: A WASTE OF CARBON CREDITS
Let's just say that the results are less about what the American Conservative wants and more about how many fresh faced Mormon missionaries are on Winter break and fancy hanging out in the same "MITT '08" T-shirt for three days.
(Via/Captain Ed)
Romney (21%)
Giuliani (17%)
Brownback (15%)
Gingrich (14%)
McCain (12%)
The Next President of The United States did not even speak to CPAC until the closing ceremony this afternoon at 5pm when the straw poll was deep in R.E.M. sleep. Newt's 14% should be handicapped by at least 10 points for the substance of his platform. But his heavy baggage pulls him right back to the original 14% . Tragic.
The most amazing score is the 12% from the guy who spent yesterday end running Mitt among his peeps in Utah and blowing off his own at CPAC.
Note to Mitt: Even with a margin of 3% shaved off for error, you should probably hit the Black Diamond ski trail in Park City before you schlep to a hotel basement for six lousy points and some rubber chicken at the Diamond Circle CPAC Banquet.
Sunday Morning UPDATE: I think Mr. Joyner and Little Miss Attila are echoing my cynicism.
Good morning, Jane. Nice job at CPAC, even without the Ritalin. I don't know how McCain gets even 1%. He's gone totally off the reservation. My fear is he will go Ross Perot if he doesn't get the nomination. But considering some of his positions and comments of late, he might just get more votes from the Democrats. Hmmm....

Did a Romney supporter step on your toe? Why so much snark directed at him?

The next POTUS? One word: Newt

I won't vote for McCain. I won't vote for McCain on a ticket. I would vote for Joe Lieberman before I vote for McCain.
However, put Newt on a ticket with either Giuliani or Romney, and I think I would stand it. While both Rudy and Mitt are flopping around like a fish on dry land, Newt's strong conservative backbone would be enough savour to make the worst tasting bottom feeder taste like ambrosia.
[JANE SAYS: Newt would be the PECANS in that dish, yes? And you are spot on.]

Oh! and Jane... if you haven't seen Kirsten Powers' take on Rudy at CPAC... it's worth the read.

Rudy, proving you can fool some of the people all the time.

Wait a minute SniperOne, that article starts out with this: "Ann Althouse dismisses the Mitt Romney broadside against Giuliani, saying that "everyone knows" that Giuliani is pro-choice, pro-gay marriage and pro-gun."
What? Rudy is pro-gun?? I think NOT!
He is a strong advocate of gun restrictions.
Just to clarify that last point; I refuse to call it "gun control" -- that's when you 'hit what yer aiming at'. Gun restrictions are infringements on our Second Amendment rights.
