Here in Northern Virginia we have an up close appreciation for immigrants of every stripe, legal and illegal. To his delight, they speak at least four different languages at the school my nephew attends in Fairfax, and I count one of its bi-lingual school board members as a reader. So it is with no small amount of certainty that I am as delightfully out numbered as I have ever been in my life.
One gets weary of the homogenized bisque aboard most Marine bases, and longs for a more elemental stew in which to swim. Being in such a fast paced society up here causes you to take notice of differences. Subtlety is magnified.
Last year on May first, or Primero de Mayo as it is called by the Leftist organizers, there was a marked decrease in traffic on the roads in my D.C. suburb. My City's construction site for the municipal pool was closed down for the day, though they were three weeks behind to get it built by Memorial Day. Mega Hel-Mart was deserted. All of these things are true and reflected in yesterday's post.
Unfortunately, it was under reported that schools were also empty as many illegals hoped to have impact on Federal funding numbers, if only for one day. This is the real tragedy of a misguided attempt to be noticed.
Why did these illegal Mexicans endure such great hardship to get to America, if not for the American Dream? Once they are here, why do they refuse to participate in English immersion, the very keys to realizing it? And why must anyone who points up these inconsistencies be labeled a "racist"?
Because Limousine Liberals see Blacks becoming Conservative (WELCOME!) in alarming numbers (4% swing in '04) and they are scurrying to create another victim class as a replacement. Got it.
So I am going to have tea in the street and enjoy my day without illegal immigrants. And I might even enjoy a legally handmade fortune cookie to end the sweet day that the leaf blowers went silent.
Just no Moo Goo.
I think a lot of today's illegals don't expect to stay forever.
[JANE SAYS: REALLY? I know from whence you speak, and you have more authority here than most>>>but you REALLY don't think they are planning to "stay"? Tell me what you mean....]

Here, in the tomato and strawberry packing capital of the world, I see no difference as I go about my daily lunch ritual of driving down the road hoping one of the dozen or so fast food joints will seem a little less nauseating than the rest. Without Mexicans, this town would be empty. Today seems like every other day. The Primero de May memo must not have made it to central Florida. So no tea in the street for me.
[JANE SAYS: I spent the day in a farm town about thirty miles west of my City. The "usual" collection spots for day labor were empty and I saw NO dump trucks at the HUGE new home center complex they are building on the edge of town.
No tea in on the sidewalk today, but no huge cracks in my windscreen either.
I think there were markedly fewer publicized "rallies" and "marches" because I think there was a backlash from last year. Gotta wonder why they didn't think THAT would happen. You grind anything in my face long enough, and if it didn't anger me before, IT WILL. ]

I know that at many schools in CA, state testing is going on, and kids KNOW that they won't be able to graduate if they miss, so they are expecting very few absentees today. Hubby has had just 2 absences today.

I think they're eventually going to run Americans out of California. Every time a neighborhood here gets one Mexican in it, all the white people move. We have no backbones. I'm not trying to be racist, as I think all races are entitled to be Americans, but Mexicans are definitely racist. Try driving through one of their neighborhoods. You just get stared at. Sorry. It's the truth.
[JANE SAYS: WE ALL self-segregate. Its what we do. It is natural to want to be with like minded neighbors, whatever their skin color. HH has a back buddy who talks about preferring to live with other blacks>>not because he doesn't LIKE my husband, but just thinks he'd have more in common with black neighbors. Then he shrugged his shoulders and resigned himself to life in white suburbia because "(my) brothers are always too busy calling (me) Uncle Tom" to make their own lot better.
White folks do they same thing when a hooptie drives through Whiteyville That is if it can get through the ever increasing number of gated communities. Why we are afraid of each other is anyone's guess, but the nature of it is just that. Nature. And if you deny THAT fact, you are a PC lost cause.]

Jane,
This is quite a bit different than self segregation. Do a search for 'Aztlan' and see what you come up with. About half of these people believe in it. It's 'reconquista', which is a term Michelle Malkin discusses all the time. I don't know if your husband has ever been stationed at Miramar, but if you're ever out here in CA I'll give you the grand tour of where it's all headed. I'm well aware that 'birds of a feather flock together,' but how aware are you that these people are seeking to take over?
[JANE SAYS: I understand you completely. I totally understand the motives of a loud minority. What I am afraid of is the slow acquiescence of the majority of illegals to the will of those radicals AND our homegrown Leftists. I say let them HAVE California, if all the LIBS promise to relocate out there with them, all nuzzled up snug together. Then they can ALL ROT together.
We have intentionally NOT come to Miramar or San Diego, or any other California base because I have seen the filth and apathy up close. NO THANKS. They don't pay HH NEEEEAR enough to make me live in that sh*thole. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN, Lion, or you are going to need more than prayer to help you.]

The danger with the Aztlan thing is the same as with any liberal "cause". A few loud-mouthed non-thinkers make a lot of noise and are ignored for the most part. But eventually a large part of the majority come to assume the non-thinkers represent most of us since that's all they ever hear. Thanks media. So you get people joining the non-thinkers because they think that's what they're supposed to do. We're a nation of people who are used to being told what to think.
My belief is that the majority of America thinks like me, but they don't know they're in the majority so they stay quiet and let whatever's gonna happen happen. That scares the grits outta me. How do we (I) wake all those people up??

Where, exactly, should I go? They're everywhere. I wish I could take you through the garment district sometime and show you the Mexican fascism on the shirts they sell there. I'll do a photo-essay on my blog for y'all. Standby to standby.
[JANE SAYS: I honestly do not know, Lion. I don't. This country is going to Hell and the moral relativists are driving the bus. I am dropping out of this gig in just a couple years, if it doesn't fall apart first. HH has done his bit (and mine, IMO) for God and country, and we are taking our marbles and GOING AWAY. Say I'm running, say I'm hiding, just don't say you blame me. I am teaching my kids to be self sufficient and prepared for the road they face.
I WOULD REAALLY enjoy the photos and would love to post some here. Bring 'em.]

There was a nasty letter in the San Francisco Chronicle the other day from some commie yelping about the evil system of capitalism needing the poor, etc. The truth is that liberals need the poor more than anything. Without the poor and downtrodden to worry about the left would have to commit mass suicide. Where would the left find jobs if not for the poor? The professorships are tenured. Corporations? Doubtful. Think on it, no more social workers, bilingual teachers or planned parenthood counselors.
[JANE SAYS: EXCELLENT POINT! But that would be a TRICKLE-DOWN THEORY working....CAN'T have THAT.]

The Aztlan thing derives from the Aztec legend of their origins. Allegedly it was in the north, although some versions refer to Aztlan as an island (or else this an attempt by some New Agers to identify Aztlan with Atlantis). The Aztec language is related to those of several native tribes in the SW U.S. (Ute, Hopi, etc.), so it may contain a kernel of truth.
None of this, of course, justifies illegal immigration, but I find this background information interesting. I've also visited several Anasazi sites, including Chako Canyon. They don't rival Mexico's ancient monuments, but they're impressive nontheless.
[JANE SAYS: SUPER. Lets all just sit around the bong and rehash ancient, ancient, ANCIENT HISTORY. Interesting. Pointlessly so. But thanks for sharing!]

Maybe, if we're going to start righting historical wrongs, we could go back to when Adam sinned. Yeah, that'll do it. Let's go back to the REAL source of the problem.
[JANE SAYS: When I get to Heaven, I am going to kick that bastard SQUARE in the jewels.]
