Please take a moment to look around. Enjoy the gorgeous weather of late Spring. Hug your children. Remember this day as a snapshot in your mind. It is, after all, Memorial Weekend. But for all together different reasons that we have always celebrated.
Because this will be the day that astute, lucid citizens will begin America's suicide watch.
Our borders are meaningless, our President and his elitist big business buddies and the limousine Liberals are in bed together to import a new slave class that your children (not their trust fund babies) will be taxed to death to support. The welfare trough is open for business.
It is too late to call your "representatives". They don't give a hoot in Hell about you. About the soul of our Great Land. And if you just scraped together a few dollars every election cycle, they hold you in special contempt. You are just a peasant who dared dream that we lived in a "democracy" that could be supported and guided with your get-out-the-vote do-gooder patriotism and whatever money you could afford to give.
But sadly, we do not. I fear we never have, but merely suffered the whitewash of historical romance.
Unless you possess the sizable fortunes of Soros or Tyson, your "representatives" don't "represent" your small interests at all. You are but a rumble strip on the freeway to their ultimate destination.
I speak not with disdain for one traditional political party or the other, but for the singleness of purpose the "D" and "R"s have in common.
Absolute Power.
There is but one party in this country now, and I will call it "They".
"They" do not live where we live.
"They" do not worry for the safety or education of their children.
"They" do not believe that God is the fount from which our inalienable rights flow.
"They" do not believe in a God at all.
I am not giving another plug nickel to the Republican Party.
'08 may be the first election that I will not go to great lengths to vote absentee.
I have ceased giving a damn about "America", because she is selfishly determined to kill herself, and "We" powerless to stanch her bleeding.
But "We" can save ourselves, our immediate families, and by way of this blogosphere , a few friendly allies. And please spare me your patriotic admonitions about hope and perseverance. My husband is a Marine, for God's sake. What more could I be? A realist. From this day forward, Jane is a realist.
Go. Hug your children and enjoy this weekend. It is your last in a free and sovereign America.
Whether "we" will acknowledge it or not.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
THE SUICIDE NOTE LINK. Its "searchable", thanks to N.Z. BEAR...what a swell. Enjoy.
Quit your {gd} bitching you little Republican crybaby, and stop pretending like you're not a Republican, or you're "above" the party, you're as pathetic as Kossacks who claim, "I'm not a Democrat", and that they've above it too, because the Dems aren't liberal enough.
You're just pure whining, that's all. Illegal immigrants are here to stay, and there's nothing you can do about it. So get over it and find a new issue to whine about, like the "gay agenda", the secret plot by homosexuals to take over the world and outlaw Christianity. I hear they've been working hand-in-hand with the Jewish Elders of Zion! (Sarcasm off)
[JANE SAYS: I do not allow G.D. on my page, so I edited that for you. Not that your pathetic soul is worth the salvation. I am a Republican, and I am proud of that. YOU are why it makes me sick that my Marine goes and lays in the dirt>>>DEFENDING FILTH LIKE YOU. ROT. IN. HELL. ]

Correct me if I'm wrong but Reagan did the same thing, only heavier on the amnesty. In fact that's why amnesty is such a dirty word now, they openly called amnesty amnesty during Simpson-Mazzoli.
[JANE SAYS: I'll forgive the Great One a little benevolent ignorance in a pre-9/11 world. But you are right, to a point.]

Jane, you're at the exact same point I was at when I killed my last blog. I know just how angry and frustrated you are with both parties. I've been there. It took me a year of walking away from all things political to clear my head and regain my faith. Hopefully you won't have to take such drastic measures.
Have some margaritas, read some fiction, and get some fresh air and sunshine. It's not a cure but it puts thing into perspective.
[JANE SAYS: You buyin'? Besides, I really think this one is for keeps, girly. But at least I have my Cotillion. XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO. GAWD KNOWS, I would have put my head in the oven LONG before this without y'all!!!! ;)]

Some day I'll write you a long email and tell you all about how the Republican party and President Bush broke my heart. And then I'll tell you about my "come to Jesus" moment that brought me back.
You're too angry now (like I said I've been there). I'll give you a bit before I bore you with the tale.
[JANE SAYS: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. I will wait in exile...;)]

Great stuff, Jane. I just read this following poll of Americans and quite frankly, if I'm not in the same spot you are in, I'm an inch away:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/24/us/politics/25cnd-poll.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin
It's time. When we go to the polls to try and save this Land, we need to see this:
-- John Doe (D)
-- Jane Doe (R)
-- Joe Citizen (A)
By the way, (A) stands for: The American Party (i don't think that party name has been taken)...and "The American Party" stands for:
Protection of Liberty and Freedom, Sanctity of Human Life, Hands Off Government, Legal Immigration, and a Reverence for the Constitution of the United States of America.
The sample ballot above might take 5 or 10 years to accomplish but it's time to start.
[JANE SAYS: My sweet Cotillion sister, Janette, is right
I am INCENSED like I have NEVER EVER BEEN, and I need to just focus on my own nest for a few breaths and view this with some fresh perspective. But I honestly cannot imagine HOW that will ever happen.
But you are right in that there should be another party on that ballot. For all of us spurned and homeless voters. We will see...]

Jane, I've read this post four or five times and still don't know how to respond except for this. I am 52 years old and so grateful I'm not any younger. I cannot bear to see what's happening to our country and with any luck I'll be dead before the USA, a country I love more than words can express, dies.
[JANE SAYS: Your response makes me sad, but I am not the least bit surprised. ;( TOO many times I feel I have thought that if I had only known fifteen years ago, what I know now, I may never have had my children. But doesn't every thoughtful generation feel this way? They are the JOY OF MY LIFE, but I truly, TRULY fear for their future in this world. REAL. FEAR. Let us all keep the future generations in our prayers. What else can we really do?
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Mad_cow. ;) ]

Tomorrow is Memorial Day and I can't help but think what some of our fallen veterans from World War 2 would be saying today if they were here. These were men who fought against the greatest evil this world had ever seen. Imagine those veterans of Normandy or Iwo Jima watching us now as we Americans put up with those who would characterize 9/11 as a government conspiracy! Imagine what those veterans would say...those same veterans who had seen the march of Nazism through Poland to Czechoslovakia to France before they even got the call to arms...imagine what they would say today as we Americans allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon, allow Hamas and Hezbollah to fire missiles upon Israel, allow Al Qaeda to invade Iraq, Somalia, Algeria, Spain, Pakistan, Thailand, etc.
Imagine those veterans of WW2, "the big one", watching the widows and widowers and orphans of The World Trade Center as we Americans build foot basins in airports and colleges to appease ...when we allow our citizens to be prosecuted for alerting us to danger.
Usually, on Memorial Day, I make it a time for me to stand quietly and bow my head and say to the fallen Veterans, "Thank You for making me Free"....but tomorrow, I will bow my head and say, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for defiling your spilled blood with my indifference and ignorance and complacency."
I will say I'm sorry and I will hang my head in shame.
[JANE SAYS: Pretty powerful image of the foot basin appeasement. That really DOES make me sad. But please don't take it personally. Make it another day to witness to the sacrifice of those great veterans of the a past. Take your kids to a parade or a veteran's cemetery. Who will pass on the duty---the responsibility--- to the next generation but the few of us who are left who don't think that Memorial Day is just another day to grill burgers and SHOP? Be sorry, certainly, but take heart that while the number of ungrateful masses may have increased, the number of INDIVIDUALS that must be sacrificed in modern warfare is MARKEDLY lower. Small consolation, but consolation nonetheless. ;)

The question being, do I get behind a third party like the libertarians? Or find like minded people to make my own? It's feasible - Leiberman did it. It's the matter of how many genuinely p***ed people can I find who are willing to sacrifice the time, effort & $$$$ that would've gone to something more immediate? Or maybe I'm just rambling. I've always been a 'decline to state'.
Or do I just say screw it and try to get people to funnel their mullah towards companies wanting to utilize space in the hope my kids can catch a ticket off this rock? I just don't know.
Of course I'm stuck in SoCal - the biggest collective wind tunnel on the planet - even more so than the 5-sided kind. If it weren't for my other half's need for specialized treatment, I would've fled this place long ago. I thought working in defense would be somewhat better here. Unfortunately for every good person I work with, there's always two connected ear-to-ear who don't understand the end-users we're supposed to be supporting. It's quite frankly maddening - and makes me consider going back in, getting a rifle and going back my landing craft, back to the sand.
The other half says I can't play dirt sailor forever. That's true. I can't. But I can't watch this craziness play out and not feel I should be there. Whether her treatment works or not, I think I'll be leaving SoCal. If it works, for a nice landlocked place in midwest or 4 corners - anywhere away from the wind tunnel people. If not, I think a trip back to my old recruiter's office instead. I'm not sure what difference it would make. But I'm sick of these politicos, their haggling over minutiae, and their insistence that illegal immigration isn't a problem. As long I do what they say and ignore the 30 illegal aliens living next door. At least over there I can concentrate on something worth while - and privately hope for someone to throw the pod people in Congress under a bus.
[JANE SAYS: I sure wish I knew who you were (via your own blog) because you seem as war weary, but as war willing as anyone I have heard here--except Hunky Husband. Men like you have had their hands in this stew for too long. I TRULY BELIEVE that the BEST thing to do is serve "your time" (which you HAVE), thereby seeing the wizard behind the curtain and what an incompetent BOOB he is>>>then MOVE ON AND PRESERVE THE QUALITY OF THE ONLY LIFE YOU GET. Did you get that? THIS IS ALL YOU GET. GOD only gives us ONE, and I have wearied QUICKLY of thinking this sinking ship can be baled by the few of us who give a damn. Take your family, go find a nice quiet town where you can BE ACTIVE IN THE LOCAL ISSUES to preserve your immediate quality of life. Learn how to VERY LEGALLY LOWER YOUR TAXABLE INCOME with the legitimate use of laws written by and for the wealthy, but under-utilized by the middle class. GET OUT OF DEBT. Use a home equity loan if you must and then CUT UP YOUR CREDIT CARDS FOREVER. Living simply can be done within the storm, and you can protect your family's interests to the best of your ability. PLEASE don't go back into the service. It is being run by wise men and micro-managed by "the pod people" inside the Beltway. We don't need your body on that heap>>>no way. Not now. Go. LEARN WHAT YOU NEED TO DO to build your ark before this rain becomes the inevitable blinding storm. ;) ]

Jane, this is an honest and powerful essay you've written. I have felt what you describe in phases since 1972, when I first voted, Republican. It is a recurring response for me, this cycling and recycling from anger, to resolve, from genuine grief for what has been sullied and lost, to retreat and escape from the sheer frustration and futility of caring. I wrote my Congressthing about immigration, asked his advocacy in behalf of the border guards who were jailed as felons, sentenced to DECADES in the pen, for shooting a dope smuggler in the butt. Yeah, I got back a form letter about the immigration "reform" bill. I called and talked to a patronizing, ignoramus young person delegated the task of simulating interest in the constituency.
We will see many bad things, Jane. It is one of a few great comforts to know that there are actually other people who care, who see reality, who will ultimately I still believe, somehow prevail.
I'm sorry you lost your faith--I tried to find more on that, I'm sure it's on the blog somewhere. But, with others who have written to you, I also testify that taking a break from the fray will help, focus on your family and friends. I've been dropping in, dropping out on this cultural and political landscape for thirty five years now. I always burn out, I always come back. It is my duty, if you will, having put my hand to the plow...
I've put seejanemom on my blogroll, hope that's okay.

[JANE SAYS: Thank you advocate! You are a far wiser (and older) voice for PERSPECTIVE. THANKTHANKTHANKyou for your kind words here. I need them. PLEASE COME BACK AND SAY THEM AGAIN ANYTIME. ;)
Your blogroll honor is gratefully received and will be returned in kind. From the looks of it, I have very stout and elite company.
Thank you again for your perspective.
