If their moronic position can no longer be defended logically, Libs sprinkle it with pejoratives like "racist", "bigot", and "homophobe". The Conservative team then calls for their Point of Personal Privilege, (Parliamentary term for "bullsh*t") and near defeat on rational grounds, the Libs will draw their last hope from the arsenal. The Proxy has become the new shield behind which every limp-wristed Lib now shelters themselves from the slings and arrows of rational Conservative thought.
