One Marine Wife Speaks Her Mind About The OPSEC Order Censoring MILBlogs From Iraq

This Marine Officer's wife choses not to blog about the War in Iraq or GWOT or any other issue directly pertaining to it because she finds it a demoralizing conflict of interest, she is not currently on the front line in Iraq, and she feels the wanna-bes who insist on second guessing this war from the comfort of their local Fourbucks are dumber than average, and not merely because they paid a five spot for bean water and cow juice.

Many. Many have asked, "What do you think of (fillintheblank) SECDEF decision?" , or "What does Hunky Husband think about Operation (fillintheblank) ?" I was even approached at CPAC to do a very high profile weekly online column as a military spouse. That was a really hard one to turn down. REALLY.

Because I am nothing if not Half of a Whole.

And my other Half is still subject to the whimsical authority of the Secretary of Defense, who works, quite literally two doors down from him. Hunky Other Half is still subject to The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and I spread Hunky's toast with the butter that comes straight from the Uncle Sugar teat every first and fifteenth. Sorry. This Whole isn't going to piss in its pudding for any flag waving, self aggrandizing glory.

There are folks who deserve it far more than I, and can speak with direct authority because the heat of battle and the smell of GPR gives them a heady selflessness that I do not possess.

Does that make me a weak kneed DoD supplicant? If you insist. But I prefer to retain the ability to hear the inside scoop (mostly from other close sources and peers, not actually HH) and form educated, if generalized, opinions which I have no trouble subtly sharing with others in this forum. Besides...I have to save something for the bestseller...right?

I respect the soldiers for their brave candor and they should be allowed to blog freely about their first person experiences from the otherwise positive information vacuum created by a Department of Defense who is insistent on winning hearts and minds when what it needs to win is a war.

Active Duty will not compromise their own safety (duh.) and if they are critical of the way the war is being executed, then tough chickens for the Generals who, in seeking to silence them, only highlight their moral authority to point out that Congress is full of pussies the Emperor is naked.

All that said. Hear me well. Under no circumstances should the free flow of objective information be stanched from its most pure source, the front line boots on the ground military personnel in Iraq.

If OPSEC insists on this course of action to make nice with the cowards on the Left, cheered by the thugs at the U.N, I would demand  that embedded counter-tribalists masquerading as "Journalists", along with their milquetoast PAOs, be promptly booted from their tax payer funded APCs, stripped of their monopoly on information from the front, and be made to walk back to civilization barefooted.

And naked.

Constitutional Remedial Reading With Rudy Giuliani

Jane is a proud Constitutional "Originalist". More specifically, a "Textualist", or an originalist who gives primary weight to the text and structure of the Constitution and is highly skeptical of the ability of judges to determine collective intent.

Rudy Giuliani is a toad on so many levels, but his proclivity for arrogance, personal drama and at least three clinical speech impediments are not my main complaint. Not today, anyway. Today it is his ability to read things that are not written and ignore things that clearly are, irrespective of the moral justifications for either.

Nowhere in my tattered personal pocket Constitution do I find an express written privacy guarantee in Section I of the 14th Amendment. I see the word "liberty", but no word "privacy". Rudy has read the same document and insisted again this week that abortion on demand is a "Constitutional right" as part of this elusive privacy guarantee that only he, hippy-dippy stoners in SoHo and sadly more and more lapsed Republicans read between the lines of clearly written text.

But then again, he is altogether blind to words that are spelled out in the Second Amendment, so what should a Conservative Textualist expect?

Rather than put his full shoulder to the wheel of justice against the true criminals in New York City, for the sake of political expedience, he traded away some of the Constitutionally guaranteed rights of law abiding citizens in order to fill his karmic piggy bank with goodwill from the Liberal heart of Gotham.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

How can he swear to uphold and defend a document that he clearly does not understand? And with the Dems flapping about the Equal Rights Amendment. Again.

Somebody pass Rudy a dictionary if he thinks the word "shall" is a synonym for the very different word, "should". But in the interest of fairness, let's read another "arcane" document in Rudese:

"Thou Should Not Commit Adultery Unless She's Really Hot And You Kinda Wanna."

The Natural Law on which our Constitution is originally based came straight from Mount Sinai. It is written in stone. It is not up for creative interpretation by easy-listening revisionists. Unless of course you are a Catholic politician with three wives and prefer to interpret the word "Commandments" as the word "Suggestions".

Latest Gallup Poll Says Fred Thompson Could Whack Rudy And The HelMitt Right Off Their Mounts

The Conservatives might be seeing some blood returning to their political muscle inside the Republican party. Though not legally. Not yet. Check the FOURTH QUESTION down on the latest USA Today/Gallup results and see what adding Fred Thompson to the race does to the other jockeys. And this is with The Newt already in the paddock.

This is no comparison to anything other than political timing, I assure you, but JFK didn't officially saddle up until February of 1960 after teasing his party for months and it didn't hurt a bit, considering the outcome. It seemed a well timed hedge against campaign burnout that Thompson can ill afford with the new and improved Super Duper Tuesday on tap this cycle.

Many say that the American public only thinks "Law and Order" when they hear Fred Thompson's name. This is the American Idol culture we live in. And if the electorate (yes,even our side of it) is that dumb, then I guess I'll take law and order any way I can get it.

If I had only known about this last week, I would have pounced on Tony Snow at CPAC and extracted a promise from him that Bush would tell them all to eat cake before he used my tax dollars to make a State visit, in my name, to some infested dirt pit populated by ingrates.

Tiney said the "spirit guides of the Mayan community" decided it would be necessary to cleanse the sacred site of "bad spirits" after Bush's visit so that their ancestors could rest in peace.

What's that I hear?

Bend down a little there, Juan. You need to get your ear real close to the ground to hear what those spirit guys are really saying. If my Spanish is as good as Bushy's I believe what they are whispering beyond the grave is a little closer in translation to,

"Hey, Juanny boy, don't bother with those ridiculous rocks and herbs because half of our population is going to buried in North Carolina at this rate, if you all can't get your shit together to make this region something besides a sink hole they can't wait to escape."

So have some more peyote there, Juan, and we'll just be taking our aid packages and our regional oil business somewhere else.

Only A TRUE Conservative Can Win In '08

I met some very well meaning Conservatives at CPAC. They said things like, " I would like to see Duncan Hunter (Ron Paul-Jim Gilmore-Tom Tancredo) win the Primary, but I'll vote for whomever my Party nominates."

How very quaint. "Your" Party.

The Rockefeller Republicans wrapped in religiosity who have begun to call the shots these days don't think its your Party, but they'll pat you on the head, record your resigned vote and let you think it is. These are the same folks who called the Conservatives agitating for Ronald Reagan's nomination "right wing nuts". Two landslides later they had to crawl under the table to eat their plate of crow.

What has happened in the intervening years?

Moral relativism and lassitude on the part of the issues driven Conservative base voter of the Republican Party has allowed them not only to re-emerge from hiding, but steal the seats at the head of the table. They know that the average listless Republican would rather keep up with American Idol than research and find a candidate of principle.

Ask Karl Rove why he decided that a big push through the Conservative Black churches during the '04 season was so imperative. Because the Evangelicals that sat out in 2000 was too scary a scenario to repeat. Unprecedented 16% Black voter turnout in Ohio was the prize for having finally given the neglected Evangelical community its due.

Now is time that we Conservatives must remind the Republican Party that they have to earn our vote.

Because it would appear that elephants will forget and begin acting like jackass RINOS without the proper Conservative husbandry.

An Open Letter to CPAC Sponsors and Organizers Regarding Ann Coulter

Conservatism treats humans as they are, as moral creatures possessing rational minds and capable of discerning right from wrong. There comes a time when we must speak out in the defense of the conservative movement, and make a stand for political civility. This is one of those times.

Ann Coulter used to serve the movement well. She was telegenic, intelligent, and witty. She was also fearless: saying provocative things to inspire deeper thought and cutting through the haze of competing information has its uses. But Coulter’s fearlessness has become an addiction to shock value. She draws attention to herself, rather than placing the spotlight on conservative ideas.

At the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2006, Coulter referred to Iranians as “ragheads.” She is one of the most prominent women in the conservative movement; for her to employ such reckless language reinforces the stereotype that conservatives are racists.

At CPAC 2007 Coulter decided to turn up the volume by referring to John Edwards, a former U.S. Senator and current Presidential candidate, as a “faggot.” Such offensive language–and the cavalier attitude that lies behind it–is intolerable to us. It may be tolerated on liberal websites but not at the nation’s premier conservative gathering.

The legendary conservative thinker Richard Weaver wrote a book entitled Ideas Have Consequences. Rush Limbaugh has said again and again that “words mean things.” Both phrases apply to Coulter’s awful remarks.

Coulter’s vicious word choice tells the world she care little about the feelings of a large group that often feels marginalized and despised. Her word choice forces conservatives to waste time defending themselves against charges of homophobia rather than advancing conservative ideas.

Within a day of Coulter’s remark John Edwards sent out a fundraising email that used Coulter’s words to raise money for his faltering campaign. She is helping those she claims to oppose. How does that advance any of the causes we hold dear?

Denouncing Coulter is not enough. After her “raghead” remark in 2006 she took some heat. Yet she did not grow and learn. We should have been more forceful. This year she used a gay slur. What is next? If Senator Barack Obama is the de facto Democratic Presidential nominee next year will Coulter feel free to use a racial slur? How does that help conservatism?

One of the points of CPAC is the opportunity it gives college students to meet other young conservatives and learn from our leaders. Unlike on their campuses—where they often feel alone—at CPAC they know they are part of a vibrant political movement. What example is set when one highlight of the conference is finding out what shocking phrase will emerge from Ann Coulter’s mouth? How can we teach young conservatives to fight for their principles with civility and respect when Ann Coulter is allowed to address the conference? Coulter’s invective is a sign of weak thinking and unprincipled politicking.

CPAC sponsors, the Age of Ann has passed. We, the undersigned, request that CPAC speaking invitations no longer be extended to Ann Coulter. Her words and attitude simply do too much damage.

Minuteman Simcox Suggests A First Amendment Based Income Tax Protest

The First Amendment guarantees citizens the freedom of speech, press, religious liberty, assembly and the right to petition their government for redress of grievances. It is that last little overlooked freedom that interests Chris Simcox, the President of The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. When I interviewed him at CPAC he elaborated on the need for citizens concerned with illegal immigration to use our Bill of Rights and some other simple tools to amplify our growing dissatisfaction with the White House and Congress over their stunning lack of due diligence.

I am not certain how squared Mr. Simcox is with the fact that the petition clause only implies that the government merely has to acknowledge the grievance, not act on it.

But he seems intent on stretching this "soldier of the First Amendment" to the limits of its duty to the American citizen. He suggested to me that the acknowledgment that our government is broken would trigger grounds for a legitimate income tax protest if the government offered no remedy by way of enforcing its existing immigration laws.

His theory sounds simple enough. If President Bush and Congress think it is impossible to arrest and deport 20 million illegal aliens, how will they round up 20 million tax objectors?

The Current Tax Payment Act of 1943 was passed for many reasons not the least of which to make that kind of tactic legally difficult, if not impossible. Since the domesticated and docile American public doesn't understand its rights, much less how to enjoy them, it may never come to that. Mr. Simcox then offered that an alternative action might be pulled from a Union play book.

He is certain that if long haul truckers would park their rigs for just one day and refuse to haul freight over roads crowded with illegal Mexican drivers, the economic impact might catch the attention of the White House much like the International Longshore and Warehouse Union strike of 2002. I joked that I wished they could remain idle until the 40,000 National Guard needed were actually deployed to the border. Chris estimated that could take six weeks once an order was given.

After five days in 2002 our nation was choking on its own trade stagnation. Six weeks would be the ruin of this country. No more, I suppose than 30 million new mouths to feed, educate and hospitalize.

When I asked the Minuteman about Mr. Chertoff's limp political nonsense commitment to "the right fencing at the right place at the right time," he said, "The President is responsible for the crime that he allows and should be held accountable. He should tear down the fence around the White House, install the virtual fence he is so fond of and replace his cabinet with guest workers to show Americans how effective such a plan would be."

Well alrighty then.

The Next President of The United States did not even speak to CPAC until the closing ceremony this afternoon at 5pm when the straw poll was deep in R.E.M. sleep. Newt's 14% should be handicapped by at least 10 points for the substance of his platform. But his heavy baggage pulls him right back to the original 14% . Tragic.

The most amazing score is the 12% from the guy who spent yesterday end running Mitt among his peeps in Utah and blowing off his own at CPAC.

Note to Mitt: Even with a margin of 3% shaved off for error, you should probably hit the Black Diamond ski trail in Park City before you schlep to a hotel basement for six lousy points and some rubber chicken at the Diamond Circle CPAC Banquet.

Sunday Morning UPDATE: I think Mr. Joyner and Little Miss Attila are echoing my cynicism.

As I was plugging in the laptop this morning, I ran across my kid's college fund waiting under the table. It seems Miss Ham is missing her shoe.

Captain Ed and I wondered if we should each take one, potentially lowering the value, or keep the pair together to fetch the higher price and split the proceeds. Then we lamented that we didn't have an actual photo of her wearing the matching red fishnet hose.

That certainly would qualify as what those in the auction industry refer to as "pedigree".
